What APRs borrowers report

Deer Creek Lending does not post an APR range. Borrowers who share their numbers on Trustpilot and PissedConsumer report APRs from roughly 520% to 700% (Trustpilot, PissedConsumer). That is in line with other high-cost tribal installment lenders and far above the 36% that many states and the Military Lending Act use as a ceiling for consumer loans.

VIP rewards for returning customers

Deer Creek Lending enrolls borrowers in a VIP Rewards program with their first loan. It says returning customers may qualify for larger amounts, lower rates on later loans and free same-day funding, but it does not publish the size of any rate reduction (VIP Rewards).

How to pay less

  • Pay early. With no prepayment penalty, every extra dollar cuts interest. On high-APR loans this is the single biggest saving.
  • Avoid fees. Keep enough in your account on payment dates to dodge the $30 returned-payment fee and bank overdraft charges.
  • Borrow less. Interest scales with the amount and the time outstanding.
  • Compare first. A credit union payday alternative loan is capped at 28% APR. A request through us can show whether a lower-cost lender will offer you something.

Why most of your early payments go to interest

On any installment loan, each payment first covers the interest that built up since the last payment, and only the rest reduces the balance. At very high APRs, the interest part is almost the whole payment.

$1,000, 12 monthly paymentsPaymentInterest in payment 1Principal in payment 1
At 36% APR$100$30$70
At 520% APR$439$433$6
At 600% APR$504$500$4
Simple monthly amortization, no fees. Illustrations only.

This is what borrowers describe when they say their balance barely moved. The fix is to pay more than the scheduled amount whenever you can, because extra money goes entirely to principal.

Biweekly payments and longer terms

Many high-cost installment loans use biweekly payments timed to paydays. At 600% APR, $1,000 repaid in 26 biweekly payments costs about $232 a payment and roughly $6,027 in total. Smaller, more frequent payments feel easier but stretch the loan across a year of interest.

Where Deer Creek Lending's rates apply

Deer Creek Lending says it does not lend in Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and that its states of operation change frequently (Availability and Rates). Washington's DFI says it is not licensed in Washington. See state disclosures for how to check any lender's license.

What fees can add up to

One late payment and one returned payment in the same month would add $50 in Deer Creek Lending fees ($20 if a payment is more than 5 days late; $30 if a payment is returned), plus whatever your bank charges for the failed debit, and interest keeps building. Setting payment dates just after your pay lands is the simplest way to avoid both.

Do rates differ by state?

Deer Creek Lending does not publish rates by state. It says the APR depends on the amount and how long the loan is outstanding, and its finance charges depend on creditworthiness. The only way to know your rate is the loan agreement, so read it before signing.

Questions

What is Deer Creek Lending's interest rate?

It does not publish one. The APR appears in your loan agreement. Reviewers report roughly 520% to 700% APR.

How much can I borrow from Deer Creek Lending?

Its site says it offers loans up to $3,000, with larger amounts possible for returning customers.

Does Deer Creek Lending charge a late fee?

Yes: $20 if a payment is more than 5 days late. It also charges $30 if a payment is returned.

Why is my Deer Creek Lending balance not going down?

At APRs of several hundred percent, almost all of each early payment covers interest. Extra payments go entirely to principal and reduce the balance faster.
